Application Procedures

1.
SOUTH AFRICAN STUDENTS

Please have a look at our requirements to see if your prior qualification qualify for admission to the postgraduate program you are interested in.  If you qualify, proceed to the next step.

For students who hold a BTech degree, completion of our BEng degree is required.  Depending on the subject content of the BTech, students will be allowed to enter at the 2nd or 3rd year level. For more information on admission requirements, please click here.

Before officially applying for admission, prospective students should familiarise themselves with the programmes and research activities within our department. (see http://www.ee.sun.ac.za/  and click "Research")

Students who are currently doing their BEng degree within our department should contact possible supervisors to discuss the proposed research topic and/or any required subject modules, as well as the availability of support funds.  Alternatively, please contact the Postgraduate Administrator of the department.

The official application is made by the supervisor on the application form, available from the postgraduate website (http://courses.ee.sun.ac.za/Nagraads/; >> click “For Supervisors”) or from the office of the Postgraduate Administrator.

Students not currently enrolled at Stellenbosch University should contact the Postgraduate Administrator, Mrs Anita van der Spuy, at ajvdspuy@sun.ac.za for more information.  Please send her the following information:

1). a short Curriculum Vitae, including contact details of references
2). certified copies of your full academic transcript
3). certified copies of your degree certificate(s)
4). Please see "Research Activities" in the middle of the postgraduate home page (http://courses.ee.sun.ac.za/Nagraads/).  Please let us know in what specific research area you would like to do your masters.  Please specify the sub-field (ie when your main research interest is "Computers & Control", specify the sub-field, eg "Aeronautical systems").
5). a research topic

All our postgraduate programmes function on an individual basis, not on a group basis. Amongst other requirements, this means that you need a supervisor who is willing and able to guide you through your studies. The limiting factors for such a supervisor include whether he/she has the time available (one can only guide so many postgraduate students), and whether your proposed research synchronizes well with his/her field of expertise.
If the prospective student complies with all the admission requirements, the postgraduate co-ordinator of the department will put the prospective student in contact with a possible supervisor.  Proposed research topics and the availability of support funds will be discussed and negotiated.
When accepted by our department, students not currently enrolled at Stellenbosch University will be required to complete the university’s application form.
Applicants will be duly informed of the success or otherwise of their applications by an official e-mail.

2.
