Message from the General Chair: The workshop has now been held, but this website will remain active indefinitely.  The book of abstracts is available online.

Thank you to all who made this workshop a great success! A write-up on the workshop appeared in the August 2006 issue of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine (pp.110-115, Vol 48, No 4). A special  issue of "Electromagnetics", (Vol 28, Nos 1-2, Jan-March 2008) featured selected technical papers from the workshop.

The 9th FEM workshop took place in Bonn, Germany, May 2008. The 10th FEM workshop is scheduled for 2010, on the East Coast of the USA.

The 8th International Workshop on Finite Elements for Microwave Engineering will be held on 25-26 May 2006 at the Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

In the early 1990s, the first Finite Element workshop for Microwave Engineering was held in Italy. Since then, this highly-focussed biennial workshop has provided an ideal meeting place for researchers and practitioners active in the theory and application of the finite element method in RF and microwave engineering. It has a tradition of moving around the world; previous workshops were held in San Miniato (Italy), Siena (Italy), Halifax (Nova Scotia, Canada), Poitiers (France), Boston (Massachussets, USA), Chios (Greece) and Madrid (Spain). This will be first time that the workshop will be held in the southern hemisphere.

The Spier Wine Estate is located in the countryside just outside Stellenbosch, and is some 40km from Cape Town, and 30km from Cape Town International Airport. This estate, a working wine farm, has a new conference centre and hotel, as well as numerous restaurants, and is very popular with both local and international visitors, as well as Stellenbosch residents. The conference centre is designed for small to medium size meetings. The four star hotel (built in a "village" style) is essentially next door to the conference centre, a minute or two's walk. Stellenbosch itself is the second oldest town in South Africa (dating back to the 1680's), the centre of the Cape winelands, and home of the University of Stellenbosch.

Ansoft has kindly offered to host a welcoming cocktail party on Wednesday 24 May at Spier- the evening before the workshop starts. See Social Program for more details.

For details of booking the shuttle service from Cape Town airport to Spier, see Accommodation.
